Gold Coast Excavation & Earthworks
Site cuts, level-outs, trenching, bulk earthworks, and tight-access excavation across the Gold Coast. From small backyard jobs to commercial civil works.
Excavation & Earthworks Gold Coast
Every great build starts below ground. Properly executed excavation is the foundation of every retaining wall, driveway, pool, building pad, drainage system, and landscape project on the Gold Coast — and the difference between a job that lasts decades and one that fails within years. Poor excavation can’t be hidden by good finishing work. Get the earthworks wrong and everything built on top is compromised from day one.
We provide excavation and earthworks services across the Gold Coast — from tight-access residential cuts on sloping blocks to bulk earthworks for civil projects, subdivisions, and commercial builds. Our team operates a full range of equipment, from compact mini excavators that fit through 900mm side access gates to larger machines for serious cut-and-fill work. Every job is quoted honestly, scheduled realistically, and executed by operators who understand the difference between digging a hole and preparing ground properly for what comes next.

Excavation & Earthworks Services We Provide
Site Cuts for New Homes and Builds
Excavating level building pads on sloping blocks — the foundation of every new home build on a Gold Coast hillside or hinterland property. We work with builders, surveyors, and engineers to deliver pads cut precisely to engineering levels, drained correctly, and ready for footing or slab work.
Retaining Wall Excavation
Excavation specifically for retaining wall installation — trenches for footings, cuts behind walls, drainage trenches, and bench cuts on terraced sites. Often combined with wall construction as a single project, removing the coordination headache of separate trades.
Pool Excavation
Digging pool shells to engineered shapes and depths, including spoil removal and site preparation for pool builders. We work with most major pool installation companies across the Gold Coast.
Drainage Trenching
Trenching for ag-pipe, stormwater pipes, sewer connections, electrical services, and combined services runs. Narrow, accurate trenches that minimise reinstatement and respect existing landscape.
Bulk Earthworks and Cut-and-Fill
Larger-scale earthworks for subdivisions, civil projects, and substantial site preparation — cutting one part of a block and filling another, balancing material movement on-site, and delivering engineered fill specifications.
Tight-Access Excavation
Specialised work for sites with narrow side access, restrictive overhead clearances, or limited working space — backyards accessible only through gates, hinterland properties with steep approaches, inner-suburb sites bounded by neighbours.
Excavation Project Types We Specialise In
Some projects make up the bulk of our excavation work. Here’s where we add the most value.
New build site preparation on sloping blocks — Gold Coast hinterland (Mudgeeraba, Tallai, Bonogin, Currumbin Valley) and many suburban hillsides need substantial site cuts before construction can begin. We work directly with builders and owners on these projects.
Retaining wall + excavation combined projects — where the excavation and the wall installation are quoted, scheduled, and delivered as a single project. Most cost-effective approach by a significant margin.
Driveway preparation — particularly for replacement driveways where the old slab needs to come out, and for sloping block driveways where engineered cuts are required.
Tight-access residential work — backyard pools, side-access landscaping, narrow inner-suburb sites where general excavation contractors can’t get equipment in.
Subdivision and small civil works — bulk earthworks, road preparation, and infrastructure works for property developers and civil contractors.
Pre-purchase or pre-construction site assessments — bringing equipment on-site to confirm what’s actually achievable before a building contract is signed. Saves owners from buying into impossible site conditions.
Drainage installation projects — where the trenching work is substantial and warrants dedicated excavation rather than being absorbed into other trades.
Excavation and Earthworks FAQs
Excavation costs depend heavily on scope, site conditions, soil type, access, and spoil removal requirements. As a guide: small residential jobs (trenching, footings, small cuts) typically range $1,500–$5,000, typical residential excavation (driveway prep, single retaining wall, building pad) $4,000–$15,000, larger residential projects (sloping block site cuts, pool excavation) $10,000–$30,000+. Larger civil and commercial jobs are quoted individually based on volume and complexity.
Standard lead times typically run 1–3 weeks depending on current workload and the size of the job. Urgent jobs — particularly storm response, emergency site stabilisation, or builder-coordinated work running to schedule — can often be prioritised. We'll be honest about realistic start dates rather than overpromising.
Yes — spoil removal is included in every quote, with truck loads, tip fees, and disposal time itemised separately so you can see exactly what you're paying for. Where spoil can be reused on-site (for landscaping fill, terracing, or contouring), we'll discuss that as a cost-saving option.
Yes — this is one of our specialties. We operate mini excavators that fit through gates as narrow as 900mm, and we have experience working in confined Gold Coast sites where general contractors can't get equipment in. Tight-access work typically takes longer than open sites but it's rarely impossible.
Yes — on every job, without exception. Service location through Dial Before You Dig is free, takes a few days, and is non-negotiable for safe excavation. Any contractor who skips this step is putting themselves, you, and your property at risk.
Yes — coordination with builders, pool installers, concreters, plumbers, electricians, and other trades is standard. We can be directly engaged by builders as a subcontractor or work as part of the owner's project team. We're set up for either arrangement.
Rocky ground is common in hinterland Gold Coast soils and some coastal hilltop areas. If we hit rock that wasn't visible at quoting stage, we stop and discuss options before adding cost. Solutions range from rock breaker attachments to redesigning the excavation to work around the rock — but no surprise invoices.
